The Blind Side
September 24th
Taken in by a well-to-do family and offered a second chance at life, a homeless teen grows to become the star athlete projected to be the first pick at the NFL draft in this sports-themed comedy drama inspired by author Michael Lewis' best-seller The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game. Michael Oher was living on the streets when he was welcomed into the home of a conservative suburban family, but over time he matured into a talented athlete. As the NFL draft approaches, fans and sports radio personalities alike speculate that Oher will be the hottest pick of the year. What is Tess' Kitchen?
In 2001, local Brentwood attorney Barbara A. Frantz, dreamed of a sanctuary, a place to feel safe, comfortable and removed from the day to day challenges of living in Big City Los Angeles. She bought 10 acres of agricultural land on the border of Discovery Bay and Brentwood in Northern California.
The first part of the project is designed to help local farmers improve their financial standing. When they incur excess produce, farmers can lose as much as 2000 pounds in a single crop.
Tess' Commercial Kitchen will offer farmers "added value" to their crops by making pies, pastries, jams, jellies, sauces, salad dressings and other edible items that will last on a shelf much longer than on the tree. Most farmers are busy all day, every day and would have difficulty managing a commercial kitchen just for their use, or even creating a co-op.
Tess' Community Farm Kitchen will be a non-profit kitchen managed by a professional staff which will assist farmers with their processing.
Presently, Ms. Frantz is the only person in East Contra Costa County who has a land use permit for such a kitchen, and is presently raising $700,000 to complete the project by July 2011.
Join the team and become a part of the agricultural legacy of this area.
